Reimagining Peer Review in the Age of AI Facilitators

A proposal for layered peer review workflows that incorporate transparent AI assistance without compromising academic integrity.

Peer review remains a cornerstone of academic publishing, yet the volume of submissions has grown beyond the capacity of traditional reviewer pools. We explore a blended workflow in which AI agents assist with structure, citation verification, and bias detection before work reaches human scholars. The approach highlights how AI can amplify, rather than replace, expert judgment.

Our prototype workflow introduces reviewer "vistas" that visualize the provenance of AI suggestions and their acceptance or dismissal by authors. This transparency is crucial for building trust and ensuring the human scholars retain agency over final decisions.

I appreciate the emphasis on transparency. Have you considered an open ledger that records every AI prompt and response used during revisions?

Interesting take. I wonder how junior scholars can contest AI flagged "bias" without fearing repercussions. Perhaps training modules could accompany the workflow?

Living Evidence Maps for Climate Resilience Planning

Integrating municipal datasets with long term climate projections to produce actionable maps for city planners.

We built an evidence mapping pipeline that aligns municipal infrastructure datasets with climate projections downscaled to the neighborhood level. The resulting "living map" updates as new observational data arrives.

A key insight is that planners engage more deeply with maps that expose uncertainty explicitly. We therefore designed overlays that visualize scenario spread and confidence intervals.

Would you be willing to share reference implementations for the uncertainty overlays? Our team is experimenting with similar concepts.

Open Pedagogy with Modular Learning Capsules

A modular approach for constructing adaptable learning sequences across institutions.

Learning capsules distill course concepts into reusable packages that include concept overviews, formative assessments, and community prompts. When crafted collaboratively, they enable rapid adaptation of curricula to local contexts.

We piloted capsules across three partner institutions and observed a 24% increase in cross campus collaboration. The forum below includes capsule drafts and peer feedback.

The collaborative drafting studio sounds promising. Did you capture metrics on iteration counts per capsule?
